Masters Day Three – Seve’s Birthday

Saturday, 9th April, 2011 – Seve Ballesteros’ 54th birthday.

Alvaro Quiros delivered a special birthday wish to one of Augusta’s favourite sons straight after birding the final hole on day of the Masters.

Ballesteros is not present at the Masters this year given he’s still recovering from brain tumour surgery but that’s not to say he wasn’t forgotten.

There had been the emotional ‘Former Champions Dinner’ on Tuesday night when fellow dual Masters winner, Jose Maria Olazabal spoke of Seve’s special love of Augusta.

Quiros had just walked off with a 73 and with the birdie moving him to six-under par and keeping alive hopes of matching what Seve achieved in 1980 and 1983.

Double Masters winning Seve - 54 today.

But despite his own disappointment in losing a grip on the lead, the very affable 28-year old Quiros agreed to the request, even though it was in English.

“Happy birthday, Seve,” he said.

But Quiros then looked back into the camera to apologise, saying:  “Sorry, Seve.  But it’s in English!”

Quiros explained his second round that included three birdies but also four bogeys in three simple words:  “It is Augusta.”
