Gooch Storms 10-Shots Clear After A Second Straight 62 In Adelaide.

Talor Gooch continues to be in a class all on his own with the American moving 10 shots clear of his rivals with a round to play in the inaugural LIV Golf Adelaide.

Gooch, 31, and with his Aussie-born caddy calling the shots, thrilled another jam-packed ‘Down Under’ crowd with some high-class golf, posting a second straight round of a 10-under-par 62 and move to a remarkable 20-under on the host The Grange course in Adelaide.

He not only achieved what must a rare first in matching his own course record, just 24-hours after setting a new host course lost while his back-to-back 62s would easily be a record low for 36-holes if this week’s event was Australasian PGA Tour sanctioned.

By way of a PGA Tour comparison, fellow American Justin Thomas owns the PGA Tour record for the lowest 36-holes, recording rounds of 59 and 64 for a 17-under tally after two days of the 2017 Sony Open but on a par-70 lay-out.

Those sharing second in Adelaide include past Australian Open winner Abraham Ancer and also Pat Perez, Charl Schwartzel, Brooks Koepka, Louis Oosthuizen and Cameron Tringale.

Five players, among them crowd favourites Cam Smith and now fellow Open Champion Phil Mickelson, are at nine-under.

There is a further six players, five of them major champions lying in a share of 13th at eight-under but just two back of second.

Though they’re all chasing the tearaway Gooch.

Gooch capped his round with a 10th hole eagle ‘3’ that he sandwiched between birdies at nine and 11, and along with six other birdies.

“Everything is just going my way,” said Gooch. “I’m hitting the ball where I want it to go. A couple times where I missed some shots I ended up in a decent spot, and yeah, it’s just a lot of people have asked the last 24 hours, how did you do it, give me the secret basically, and it’s like, if I had the secret, we would write that book and everyone would know it.

“No, the game is feeling really good right now, and hopefully we can keep it going. We’ve got a big day for the Range Goats tomorrow, so we need to keep the pressure down”.
