Scot Ewen Ferguson was pleased to secure a second top-four finish in as many weeks at the close of the co-sanctioned Jonsson Workwear Open in Joburg.
Ferguson, 26, posted a final round 68 for a 19-under-par tally and just three adrift of German, and final round playing partner, Nick Bachen and with the Tour rookie signing off in style with eight birdies in a 64 to win by three strokes at 24-under par on The Club course at Stern City, and to the north of the South African capital.
Bachen, who collected 29 birdies over the four days, endeared himself to the locals, all week sporting a pair of Springbok flag socks.
Ferguson, and tied third in last week’s event near Eastern Cape, teed-up just one day shy of tomorrow’s (March 27) one-year anniversary of his maiden Tour victory at the Qatar Masters, and while just falling short in capturing a third Tour title, the Scot can be proud of his efforts these past two weeks in the Rainbow Nation.
He said: “Two top-five finishes is pretty good golf, and while I had a chance to win, you just embrace the moment of being in that position, and take it all in and try to learn from it.
“I just didn’t hole that many putts out there today while Nick (Bachen) holed a few more, so there was not really more than I could do. It’s sometimes just the way the golfing gods are, at times”.
Gleneagles Calum Hill began and ended with rounds of 66 to be just inside the top-50 at 10-under while Fifer Connor Syme (71) was one shot inside the leading 60 at eight-under.

Fellow Scot David Drysdale grabbed a second straight top-10 finish in the three-round reduced Asian Tour event in Hong Kong.
Drysdale returned early Sunday (local time) to birdie his 15th hole on route to an equal-lowest round of 65, and a best round in eight appearances for the Bordes golfer on the host Hong Kong club course in eventually sharing ninth place.

The Scot had been fifth just over three years ago when the DP World Tour last hosted an event in Hong Kong.
Local Hong Kong rookie pro, Taichi Kho, and in only his third pro event, won by two shots to not only create Asian Tour history but to earn a spot into July’s 151st Open, and also be the first local golfer to win in the Chinese Special Administrative District and now to contest golf’s oldest major.
Kho, 22, and a former amateur at Notre Dame in the U.S. said: “I can’t put into words how grateful I am to have this opportunity. To play on the Asian Tour and represent Hong Kong Golf Club, to play well is very special. The fans gave me a lot of momentum, thank you to Hong Kong.”
Others to earn an Open tee time were New Zealand runner-up Michael Hendry, Aussie Travis Smyth and Korean Bio Kim
