Walker Targets Top-10 Indian Take-Out As Siem Gets The Delhi Shivers

Scot Euan Walker is in reach of a DP World Tour career high top-10 heading to the final round of the Hero Indian Open in New Delhi.

Walker, 27, produced four birdies, none better than at the 54-hole in a bogey-free 68 on the host DGF course to share 12th place and trailing just a shot adrift of 10th place, and also only three behind Dutchman Joost Luiten (68) lying fourth at eight-under.

The German duo of Yannick Paul (71), at 11-under, along with his 42-year-old compatriot Marcel Siem (67) just one back, lead the way.

The pony-tailed Siem, who endeared himself to fans at the 149th Open Championship with his top-20 effort at Sandwich, is seeking a fifth Tour success and in what would also be a first in over eight years.

Siem said: “I get the shivers already, just thinking about winning (smiling)

“Yannik is a very good player, very steady, he’s a tough guy to beat. I’m not thinking about it.

“It’s the last three holes down the stretch, that’s where it matters. I’m just trying to do what I do, but it would mean a lot to me, trust me.

“It would be a life-changer if I won, but let’s talk about that tomorrow.”

However, Paul struggled on ‘moving day’ letting slip a 36-hole five shot lead that’s now been cut to just one.

Walker picked-up birdies at the first, fourth, eighth and a great birdie at the last ahead of the final day.

He said: “It’s the first round in a while where I’ve had really good control of the ball all the way round.

“I had maybe two shots out of position on the front nine and I was able to recover for pats. But, other than that, I was on the fairway and on the green – exactly how I wanted to play”.

The Dundonald Links attached Walker only just failed to secure his DP Tour card off last year’s secondary Challenge Tour, and with a prior best main Tour finish in 15 scattered appearances being a T38th in the 2021 Dutch Open.

A top-10 in Delhi would also secure Walker a start in the next DP Tour event, being the March 9th commencing Magical Kenya Open.

Top-ranked Scot Robert MacIntyre birdied his closing two holes in a 71 to just inside the top-50 at three-over though the Oban lefty continues to struggle having broken 70 just once now in three events, and nine rounds of competition.
