Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson is on target to join golfing greats Seve Ballesteros and Ian Woosnam in adding his name to the trophy, taking a four-shot lead into the final round of the Magical Kenya Open in Nairobi.
Ferguson, 25, continues to revel in the dizzy 6,000 feet above sea-level conditions, posting a five-under 66 to move to 14-under-par on the famed Muthaiga course to the north of the Kenyan capital.

The Tour rookie is contesting only his 34th DP World Tour tournament and only a third this year since gaining full main tour status.
Now the Glaswegian is one round shy of seeing his name etched on the same trophy as Ballesteros (1978), Scots Brian Barnes (1981) and Ken Brown (1983), Woosnam (1986), and Trevor Immelman (2000).
Ferguson, and with chants of ‘C’mon Scotland’ from the crowd, capped his third day’s play with an eagle ‘3’ at the par-5 fourth and three inward half birdies.
He said: “I was playing really well coming into the day, made a nice birdie on one which I think really settles you down a little bit.
“I’ve just managed to plod my way along. I made a couple of mistakes which, when you’re playing well, you still come out with a par”.
Ferguson is returning to competition after being struck down with Covid and managing to tee-up in only two of the four Middle East Swing events, but now he’s set to also celebrate the Tour’s 50th anniversary in becoming the first Tartan winner of 2022.
He said: “It would be unbelievable to win, and a great honour to be the first Scot to win a DP World Tour event, but I think with everything going on in the world right now, golf just means so little and I think that’s in the back of everyone’s minds.
“I think that’s pretty key as well, there’s so much other stuff going on so I’ll try my best tomorrow and try to grind out the win but if it doesn’t happen I’ll be back again for another chance.”
China’s Ashun Wu (66) and Swede Marcus Kinhult (64) share second place at 10-under par and with Scott Jamieson, matching Kinhult’s score with nine birdies in his 64 to be sharing 12th place at seven-under.
Also, on seven-under is Fifer Connor Syme in producing a bogey-free 66.
