Robert MacIntyre will now take his ‘every man and his dog wants to play the PGA Tour’ determination to this week’s final Korn Ferry Tour event in Indiana in a goal to win full main tour membership.
MacIntyre added a second round 72 to his opening 68 to miss the cut by a shot at the Korn Ferry Tour’s season-penultimate Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in Columbus.
The champion Scot had been well-placed post Thursday’s opener but a hat-trick of bogeys from his sixth hole spoilt hopes of playing all four days on the Scarlet course at the University of Ohio.
It is the second week in succession Scotland’s top-ranked has missed the cut in his two secondary Korn Ferry Tour appearances of the 2020/21 season. Of note, it is only a second time in MacIntyre’s 68 events on either the European, PGA and now Korn Ferry Tour’s the Oban lefty has missed two cuts in a row and the first being two years in Switzerland and Sweden.

Robert MacIntyre now headed to the final Korn Ferry Tour event of the season with it all to play for if the Scot is to earn 2021/22 PGA Tour membership
MacIntyre has just this Thursday’s starting Tour Championship to be among the top-25 on the mini money-list being run of the closing three events to secure a full 2021/22 PGA Tour card.
With four cards confirmed after last weeks event in Idaho and a similar number set to lock-in their cards this week in the Buckeye State, MacIntyre is going to need to finish top-two this week in the Hoosier State if he’s going to be playing full-time from next month on the main PGA Tour.
MacIntyre said: “Last week’s course in Idaho just didn’s suit me. It wasn’t the style of course that suited my game as I love to have the driver in my hand and also being able to shape the ball.
“After having three days off at the start of the week here in Columbus when I didn’t touch a golf club, I played well on Thursday but then you get days like today (Friday) where all you can do is dust yourself off and go again”.
And when asked about his goal to eventually earn a full PGA Tour card, there was no questioning MacIntyre’s desire.
He said: “I had the opportunity two years ago at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush as that qualified me for the PGA Tour Final but I felt I was comfortable enough and established enough on the European Tour, given it my first full season, so I knocked it back.
“This year I have I am ready to play on the PGA Tour but then I qualified for ‘Temporary’ membership but just fell short in the final week of the regular season at the Wyndham.
“I feel I’ve got the game to play the PGA Tour and I have proved that with some of my finishes.
“It’s just that the PGA is the pinnacle of golf. It’s the top end of professional golf and I can’t beat around the bushes. It’s where every man and his dog want to play his golf and I’m no different”.
