Robert MacIntyre will look to wrap-up his two-months Stateside on a positive note heading to the final round of the RBC Heritage in South Carolina.
MacIntyre fought back from a mini set of three bogeys mid-round to post a one-under par 70 for six-under tally in ideal conditions on the Harbour Town course at Hilton Head.
The Oban lefty went into golf’s moving day on the back of a bogey-free 67 and he was off to a bright start holing a seven-footer for birdie at the second.
He then moved to seven-under in landing a 110-yard wedge shot at the par-4 sixth hole to four-feet for birdie.
Scotland’s top-ranked then paid the price two poor tee shots in missing the green well right at the par-3 seventh and two-putting for bogey. Then at the next MacIntyre sent his drive right into the trees on route to a bogey ‘5’.
MacIntyre was still on the bogey train after being short with his second into the par-4 10th and two-putting from 11-feet also for bogey and now down 26 spots to share of 45th place.
MacIntyre corrected the slide in brilliant manner at the 13th in landing a 125-yard second shot to just 10-inches for a third birdie of his day before pulling off the putt of his round in holing an 18-footer from off the green at the next, the par-3 14th.
He let a birdie go begging in two-putting the par-5 from six-foot for par at 15 but was spot on at the next, the par-4 16th and when he drained a 15-footer for the fifth birdie of his day.
MacIntyre let another one slip in finding a greenside bunker left at 17 only to three-putt from just seven-feet ahead of a closing par and head to the scorer’s hut then inside the top-30.
MacIntyre’s putting again was strong in one-putting the first three holes in a tally of 28 putts but he hit just seven of 14 fairways and struggled with hitting 10 of 18 greens in regulation.
It left the Scot trailing well adrift of 2009 Open Champion Stewart Cink who continued to lead late in the round as the now 47-year-old seeks to win the event for a third time after victories in 2000 and 2004.
