Rory McIlroy confirmed he will warm-up for ‘Take Six’ at a Career Grand Slam by tackling the PGA Tour’s CJ Cup and ZOZO Championship next month ahead of tackling the Masters.
The back-to-back events have been moved from South Korea and Japan to Las Vegas and L.A. respectively due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic and will be now held in the last two weeks of October.
The rescheduled Masters will tee-off from the 12th to 15th November.
“I’m looking forward to playing in The CJ Cup at Shadow Creek in October,” McIlroy said.
“I’ve watched how the tournament has become a success over the past few years and it’ll be exciting to have the opportunity to compete in it for the first time.
“I had a great time at the inaugural Zozo Championship and will be hoping to build on last year’s success when we play at Sherwood. I’ll miss playing in Japan this year but hopefully, we’ll get to return soon.”
The ZoZo Championship, and being defended by Tiger Woods, will feature the present top-5 on the World Rankings. As well, the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth are all expected to feature in both events ahead of the Masters.
“I was excited to hear that the CJ Cup will be played at Shadow Creek, where I have played some good golf in the past with family and friends,” said World No. 1 ranked Dustin Johnson.
“It’s a really good golf course and should be a great venue for the tournament. As a proud member at Sherwood Country Club, I am thrilled the club will be hosting the Zozo Championship.
“I have played countless rounds there and love the golf course, so I’m really looking forward to the tournament.”
MEANTIME – Graeme McDowell has arrived back into the UK and gone straight into this week’s Scottish Open tournament bubble.
McDowell also will contest next week’s BMW PGA Championship before an expected self-isolation period and then seeing his parents in Portrush.
And much like fellow Irishman Shane Lowry, it is McDowell’s first visit back to Europe all year.
