PGA Players Advisory Committee Vote On June 11th Restart To COVID-19 Hit Schedule

The PGA Tour Players Advisory Committee it is understood today (Tuesday) backed a PGA recommendation to return to competition on June 11 for a rescheduled Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas.

It was thought the Texas event on the famed Colonial course would take place at the end of next month from May 21-24, and as presently appearing on the schedule, but given on-going fears over COVID-19, the Tour will announce shortly a move for the Texas event to the second week of June, and with the possibility the event will be played without spectators.

The Committee, and in a telephone conference call Tuesday, it is understood agreed to rescheduled the following:

  • The Charles Schwab Challenge, and due to be played from May 21-24, will still become the first Tour event since the cancellation of the Players Championship in moving to June 11-14 and take the place of the cancelled RBC Canadian Open.
  • The Rocket Mortgage Classic to switch from May 28-31 to July 2-5.
  • The Memorial will move from June 4-7 to July 16-19, and in the same week now vacant with the cancellationof of the 149th Open Championship

Bizarrely, the PGA Tour still continues to show the 2020 RBC Canadian Open will take place as scheduled from June 11-14 but www.golfbytourmiss.com reported a fortnight ago Rory McIlroy’s defence of his RBC Canadian Open title will not take place after the Toronto Mayor John Tory announced all city-sponsored events and permits had been cancelled through the end of June, 2020.

The RBC Canadian Open is backed by the Toronto City so why it remains on the Tour schedule remains a mystery.

The Players Advisory Committe meeting were also made aware the week of June 18-21 remains free and with words “Potential PGA Tour tournament” appearing on the 2019/20 wraparound schedule.
