Every Admits Taking Cannabis But Brings Into Question Tour’s Drugs Policy.

No sooner had American golfer Matt Every been suspended for 12 weeks for violating the PGA Tour’s Conduct Policy for drugs of abuse and the two-time Arnold Palmer Invitational winner admit he has been legally taking cannabis.

The Tour indicated in Friday’s statment Every will be eligible to compete again on January 7th, 2020 but in their statement it did not specify the drug of abuse but did say that there would be no further comment on the suspension at this time.

This has long been Tour policy but in response to his shock suspension the 35-year old Daytona Beach born Every revealed he tested positive for cannabis, and in a bizarre twist indicating he has a legal prescription to take the drug in his state of Florida.

“I tested positive for cannabis, a drug I do not abuse and a drug I have a legal prescription for in the state of Florida,” said Every.

“I have been prescribed cannabis for a mental health condition by my physician whom has managed my medical care for 30 years. It has been determined that I am neither an acceptable candidate to use prescription “Z” class drugs nor benzodiazepines.

“Additionally, these classes of drugs can be highly addictive and harmful to the human body. For me, cannabis has proven to be, by far, the safest and most effective treatment”.

Every indicated he was fully aware of the PGA Tour but had “no choice but to accept” the decision.

“With that being said, I have no choice but to accept this suspension and move on,” he added.

“I knew what WADA’s (World Anti-Doping Agency) policy was and I violated it.

“I don’t agree with it for many reasons, mainly for my overall well-being, but I’m excited for what lies ahead in my life and career. Over the last few years I have made massive strides and I know my best is still in front of me. I can’t wait to come back better than ever in January.”

Eleven American States and Washington, DC, have now legalized marijuana for recreational use for adults over 21 while 33 States have legalized medical marijuana.

Every turned pro in 2006 and won the back-to-back 2014 and 2015 Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando.

His highest world ranking has been 40th after winning in 2015 at Bay Hill while the father of two is currently ranked No. 256th in the world.
