Fisher Drives Off With £133,000 BMW Thanks To 18th-Hole Albatross

Former Wentworth-attached Ross Fisher was celebrating in winning £133,000 stunning BMW i8 Rossa Corsa ‘electric’ sports coupe for a spectacular albatross ‘2’ at the final hole on day three of the BMW Championship.

The Englishman, who first played the tournament back in 1994, had 225-yards to the pin at the 18th and pulled-out a 4-iron to see his shot clear the water guarding the green and then disappear into the cup in a back-9 29 for a round of 66 for a seven-under par 54-hole tally.

“Yeah, it was pretty surreal. 4-iron just right off the fairway. Just trying to hit it just a little bit right of the pin, and actually tugged it a little bit left,” he said.

“I wasn’t sure whether it was going to, sort of looked away, and crowd’s reaction told the rest of the story, the massive roars and cheers, know it’s gone in, and to win the BMW i8, still a bit shocking.

“It was the best-best shot I’ve ever hit by a long way. It was pretty special, growing up here, playing as a kid since ’94 for 15 years and, of course, was attached to the club for a long time.

“I’ve had a couple of chances of winning the tournament including losing to Paul Casey in 2009 when I shot 64 on Sunday. I hd hit a lovely 3-wood in there, I think it was.

“So to be hitting driver, 4-iron in today, making two — take a little while to sink in but feels pretty sweet.

“I was just another day in the office before the albatross, pretty quiet, pretty poor on the front nine and started to play half decent on the back nine. 66 was a nice score.”

Fisher gave no indication of the fireworks over his back nine after going out in 37 thanks to just two birdies along with two bogeys and an eighth hole double-bogey.

And then stormed home with six birdies, four in succession from the ninth hole, and then that rarest or rarest golfing birds at the last.
