This year’s Masters is still two months away but it has not stopped an American punter wagering $10,000 on Tiger Woods to be fitted with a fifth Masters green jacket.
The Las Vegas-based Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook Casino has accepted the 12/1 bet on Woods and if successful, that’s a whopping $120,000 pay day for the unnamed ‘regular’ resort guest.
The casino tweeted the bet with Westgate SuperBook is the company’s single largest bet they have taken on a player to win this year’s Masters.
Though the casino doesn’t plan to adjust his odds as a result, leaving Woods at 12/1 alongside Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose and with Dustin Johnson top favourite at currently 10/1 to capture a maiden Masters.
Woods captured a first Masters with a sensational 12-shot victory in 1997 and then won a second in 2001 and a third a year later. He won a fourth in 2005.
A year ago, Woods ended a two-year absence to finish T32nd.
And Superbook indicated more money has been bet on Woods than any other 2019 Augusta competitor since 2019 Masters betting opened last August.
What is surprising is that Woods is not the most popular in terms of the number of individual bets placed on the now 43-year old.
That honour belongs to England’s Tommy Fleetwood who is currently listed at odds of 30/1.
In fact, Fleetwood played the opening two rounds of the 2018 Masters alongside Woods to eventually finish T7th in just his second Masters for the then European No. 1.
