TPC Boston …
The golf world will learn next Tuesday whether Woods will be afforded a Jim Furyk USA Team ‘captain’s’ pick and with not many better against Woods earning what would be an eighth USA team cap.
Also expected to be handed a Versailles cap is 24-year old Bryson DeChambea and with Woods expressing his delight should he be drawn in the Ryder Cup with a play 18-years his junior.
“Well, I don’t remember the first time I met him, but we’ve played a number of practice rounds this year, and talked to him at the Ryder Cup back in ’16 at Hazeltine,” said Woods.
“He was riding in the cart with us for a little bit. To see how smart he is, what are our odds or percentages of X and X, if you put this pairing, in this session, what are the odds of us winning.
“And he said I’ll give you half the hole. And he came back with the answer.
“That’s one of my recollections of Bryson.
“But he and I playing together would be fantastic. He’s competitive. He’s fiery. He’s got all the things you’d want when you play a team match.
“I know that we think about the game completely differently. I’m very much a feel oriented guy and he’s very much a numbers guy. But for some reason we get along great and we work.
“I understand what he’s saying. And that’s been fun.”
Woods will play the opening two rounds in the company of Australia’s Marc Leishman and American Chec Reavie and with the trio ranked 24th, 25th and 26th on the FedEx Cup standings.
It will be the sixth occasion this year Woods and Leishman will be out in the same group.
Leishman tweeted late Wednesday saying: “Masters, quicken loans, northern trust & dell for the first 2 rounds. Plus round 3 at Bridgestone. We’ll run out of stuff to talk about pretty soon I don’t think I’m missing any?”
