This favorite season opener, no cut, for winners only in 2011 on the PGA Tour has 28 players teeing it up over the challenging Plantation Course, par 73, 7411 yards, from January 5-9th.
Jonathan Byrd is defending his title after winning in a play-off with 24-under 268.Prizemoney this year is $5.6 Million in prize money with a winner’s cheque of $1.2m.
Keegan Bradley, brilliant winner of the 2011 PGA Championship, is thrilled to be playing this daunting layout. “The course is crazier than I thought. I knew it would be hilly and rolling but this is a lot more intense than I thought. It a fun course to play.”
The 2011 PGA Rookie of the Year, Bradley added, “We’re lucky we get carts so we go fly around. I definitely wouldn’t want to be a spectator on this course.”
Favourites to take out the first tournament of the New Year include long-hitting Bubba Watson, David Toms, and Steve Stricker all who know Kapalua well.
Warm breezy weather is forecast but with also some showers for opening day.
