Masters champion Sergio Garcia and his new wife, Angela are getting right behind fund-raising efforts for those affected by ‘Hurricane Harvey’ in Texas.
Garcia has promised to donate $US 2,000 for each birdie and $US 5,000 for every eagle over the closing three FedEx Cup Play-Off events.
The Spaniard now has a strong connection with the Lone Star State.
Garcia’s wife was born in Austin and the couple formally celebrated tying the knot in the Texan capital that has escaped the near 36 inches that has been dumped on Houston since Hurricane Harvey hit the south-each Texas coastline last Friday.
Garcia dropped eight places to 30th after electing not to contest last week’s opening event of the four-tournament Play-Off Series.
And Garcia will be looking to contest all three final events by being among the top-30 to contest the September 21st starting Tour Championship.
A year ago, Garcia contested just two of the four events grabbing 17 birdies in finishing T47th in Boston and then two eagles and eight birdies with his T24th showing in the following week’s BMW Championship.
That would have equated to a $US 60,000 donation.
Looking forward to @TheSergioGarcia making lots of birdies & eagles over the next 3 events! We love you Texas & are here for you. #Texas https://t.co/0z7aXB0GtM

The Spaniard returns to competition, and for a first time since missing the cut with a pair of 75s at the PGA Championship.
And Garcia, along with the likes of Scots Russell Knox and Martin Laird, and also teeing-up later this week in Boston, no doubt has seen Twitter images of the Houston Open host venue under some four feet of floodwaters.
Greens Bayou cuts the Golf Club of Houston host venue in half but pictures of the course look more like an inland sea than one of the PGA Tour’s favourite stops.
