Jhonattan Vegas Has One Eye On The Trophy & The Other On Hurricane Harvey.

Old Westbury, NY …

Jhonattan Vegas has one eye on a second PGA Tour title this year but a second more important eye on ‘Hurricane Harvey’.

Weather experts believe the hurricane will hit the Texas Gulf of Mexico coastline with 35 inches of rain and “catastrophic” storm-surge flooding.

This was Vegas’ concern after he signed  for a five-under par 65 to move into three-way share of the clubhouse lead at six-under par in the Northern Trust on New York’s Long Island.

Vegas lives in Houston and while somewhat inland from the coast itself it has not stopped the recent RBC Canadian Open winner being concerned for his family.

“Yeah, it’s hard. It’s hard not being home, not being able to help with the house and with everything,” he said.

“I’m a little bit fortunate that we live up north in the Woodlands, and historically, by the time hurricanes come into Houston, it takes a little longer to get into Houston. But you never know what could happen.

“I’m in touch with them the whole day today, and you know, hopefully it will be just some precipitation (ph) but nothing more than that.

“We do live about 50, 60 miles from the coast. So I think by the time the hurricane hits Houston, it will soften by the time it gets up north. Obviously we’re going to get a lot of rain and a lot of wind, but I don’t think it should be more than that.

“We’ve been through many hurricanes, even some tough ones, Ike several years ago was a really tough one through Houston that we had to get out of there. And so hopefully this one doesn’t look as it’s going to be as big, but it’s always Scary.

“It’s always scary when you have a wife and daughter and mom at home by themselves, so God willing, nothing will happen”.
