Ormsby Shines With 64 As Hundreds Of ‘Bjorns’ Applaud Bjorn’s 500th

Lost in the joy and amazing euphoria in celebrating Thomas Bjorn’s 500th European Tour event was in-form Wade Ormsby producing a round 64 to share the lead in the Made in Denmark.

Ormsby commenced his round from the 10th and stormed his way to the front in birding four of his opening seven holes on the jam-packed Himmerland Golf and Spa resort course.

The Adelaide golfer birdied the 11th, 13th, and then a ‘2’ at the par three, 16th.

His only blemish of the day was at the 18th or the ninth hole to make the turn in three-under.

Ormsby then capped his round in a three-hole stretch with birdies at his 11th and 12th holes before moving to seven-under in dramatic manner with an eagle ‘3’ at the 13th or the fourth hole on the card.

He ended the round tied on seven-under with the England duo of Steve Webster and Matt Wallace.

And Ormsby continues to rake-up the air miles this year having travelled a near 16,000 klms from last week’s Fiji International, and where he led going into the last day before ending T5th, to Denmark and with his round matching a similar 64 to commence June’s BMW International Open in Munich.

Also, in June Ormsby made his Majors debut in venturing to rural Wisconsin to compete in the U.S. Open.

“It went pretty well to be honest,” said Ormsby.

“It wasn’t terribly easy out there. The wind was getting around a bit.

“I just got it going early, got to four under and then got a little bit of momentum through the start of my second nine and all of a sudden I was seven under.”

Bjorn was applauded at every turn and no more at the par three 16th where hundreds sitting around green pulled out Thomas Bjorn face masks as the Dane walked onto the green.

Bjorn, and often known for his short-temper, clearly delighted in seeing some many ‘Thomas Bjorns’.

The 15-time European Tour winner was delighted to be able to share his special day with Danish golf fans.

“It’s difficult to put into words really,” he said.

“I kind of feel like shooting 100 or shooting 60 wouldn’t really have mattered. It was all about being out there today and sharing a moment with golf fans in this country who have done so much for me and always been there for me.

“It’s a very special day for me and I’m just really happy I got to live this moment on Tour.

“A lot of good things have happened to me in golf but this is probably one of the better moments I’ve ever had.

“I’m not sure I want to see that many faces of myself in the future again!

“I can’t describe enough how nice people have been to me this week. It just shows a bit about what this Tour is – we’re a big family and when big moments come for certain players, we’re all there to support and now it’s my turn.

“It was just a day I’ll remember for the rest of my life. What a day.”

South African Zander Lombard and Italy’s Edoardo Molinari both made aces at the 86-yard 16th. Molinari’s was the 998th in European Tour history.
