One wonders why BBC TV even bothers to report on golf at all in their sports bulletins.
I could put up with a female staffer referring to the ANZ Championship as the A N Zee, as is the case with the American pronunciation of the last letter of alphabet, when she was reported earlier in the week American Lexis Thompson was on target to become the youngest ever winner on either the Ladies European and LPGA Tours.
But Saturday night’s (Bangkok time) golf report left me flabbergasted.
Their male staffer in reporting on the Thailand Golf Championship rightfully indicated South African Charl Schwartzel had moved to within just four shots of third round leader Lee Westwood.
But what do we hear next: “Schwartzel, who captured the 2010 Open Championship”.
And this from the same TV network that covered the 2010 Open at St. Andrews, and won by Louis Oosthuizen.
Once again the good ole ‘Beeb’ loses out in the credibility stakes when reporting golf.
Why not just leave all golf reporting to SKY Sports?
