Rory McIlroy Reunited With U.S. Open Trophy

Rory McIlroy has been reunited with the U.S. Open trophy even though it is a further copy of the gleaming trophy handed him last June at Congressional.

The USGA shipped-out a copy of the trophy in order it can be on display at this week’s season-ending Dubai World Championship.

However the trophy, shown in the hands of the Press Association’s Mark Garrod, is a further copy.

One still remains in Shanghai but then Conor Ridge, who manages McIlroy’s affairs, indicated China officials had finally agreed to release the gleaming trophy and it is the process of being shipped to the Horizon Sports Management offices in Dublin.

Just goes to show the power of the media in bringing the tale to notice when the month-long efforts of two management companies and the USGA could get the China customs officials to budge.

So the good news is the European Tour once again has three of the most famed trophies in golf again on display at this year’s Dubai World Championship.

Along with the U.S. Open trophy there is the British Open Claret Jug, won by Darren Clarke, the gold Ryder Cup won late last year by the European Team.
