Tom Lewis Forced To Sleep In Pullover & Trousers After Contracting A Stomach Virus.

Ailing Portugal Open winner Tom Lewis has spent the past two nights sleeping in a pull over and trousers before being diagnosed with a stomach virus.

Lewis had raced to four under par early on day one of the Castellon Masters before the effects of the virus drained much of the 20-year olds energy in carding a level par 71.

“I’ve struggled for two days with a fever and been sleeping in pullovers and my trousers with my body going from hot to cold,” he said.

“It was just really difficult for me to concentrate and also embarrassing to have so many miss hits in front of Sergio (Garcia).”

While tournament host Sergio Garcia bounced back to form with a 67 it was Essex’s Ross McGowan again displayed his fondness for Spain in posting a 64 to lead at seven under.

Two years ago McGowan won the Madrid Masters while he began the same event last fortnight with a 64.

“There is just something about Spain that brings out the best in my golf,” he said.

McGowan capped his round holing a 200-yard 4-iron second shot for eagle at par four, 17th.
