David Lingmerth Confirms He Will Join European Tour With Goal Of 2016 Ryder Cup.

Sweden’s PGA Tour based David Lingmerth confirmed he will join the European Tour and thereby make himself available for 2016 European Ryder Cup selection.

The reigning Memorial champion confirmed to www.golfbytourmiss.com he will take up membership at the close of the Race to Dubai in time for the commencement to 2015/16 PGA Tour wrap around season.

Lingmerth broke through earlier this year to defeat overwhelming favourite Justin Rose in a play-off for the Jack Nicklaus hosted event at Muirfield village.

The 28-year old Lingmerth then followed up his success in Ohio with a sixth place finish in the Greenbrier Classic while he was third a week ago in the Quicken Loans National.

“I have been speaking with my manager about joining the European Tour and try to figure out how we will go about it,” he said.

“It seems like once the final event in the Race to Dubai is over I will join.

“The key of course is if I keep playing well and hopefully I will as it would be great to represent Europe in a Ryder Cup.

“Looking at my events this year I am well short in terms of European Tour counting events but having won the Memorial I am into a lot of the bigger events while I’m presently 59th on the World Rankings and I do need to get myself into the top-50 to be playing in all the bigger events next year.”

And Lingmerth revealed he has spoken to Rose about the thought of joining the Tour, and the player he beat to claim a first PGA Tour victory last May.

“I have spoken to Justin about joining the Tour and he supports me,” he added.

“Of course, the Ryder Cup has always been a dream and now that I have locked in my card on the PGA Tour for the next few years I am in a position where I can give it a chance to represent Europe.”
