Ireland’s Shane Lowry rebouned from a first round 78 with a 69 that included a mid-round run of birdie, birdie and then an 11th hole eagle where he drilled a 5-iron from 213-yards to just eight feet.
The Carton House attached pro arrived at the Sheshan Golf Club lying 51st on the World Rankings knowing a top-20 finish will see him break into the elite of world golf and that’s a first ever top-50 ranking.
“It was a good bounce back from yesterday after a very disappointing round and that 78 just came out of nowhere,” he said.

“I had nine birdies winning the morning Pro-Am on Wednesday and then going into the first round I hit the ball lovely on the range, so then come out and shoot a 78 really sat me on my backside.
“But I was delighted today with how I got myself back into the tournament and to shoot three under par was very pleasing.
“So if I can get myself back to par tomorrow then I will be delighted because I had an awful bogey at my eighth hole and then had two birdies and an eagle into eight feet.
“But it’s a tough golf course and if you get out of position there is a big number waiting for you. It doesn’t take much if you start missing fairways to get onto the bogey train and you can see that from the scores as three-under par is inside the top-10.”
Lowry will tee up on day three of the $US 8.5m event sharing 49th place at two over par and a dozen shots behind good friend Graeme McDowell who posted a second straight 67 to move three clear of the field at 10-under par.
