England’s Kenneth Ferrie equalled the European Tour 18-hole in shooting a 60 in glorious conditions on day three of the Andalucian Open at Malaga in Spain.
The 32-year old Ferrie eagled the 12th and had eight birdies including a pair to finish, becomes the 15th member of the ’60 Club’ and the first for two years.
“The old squirrel occasionally finds the odd acorn,” said Ferrie grinning broadly.
“I thought about shooting a 59 and I have been playing really well the last few weeks.
“But really it was nothing spectacular and it’s just that I holed a few good putts around the turn from 15 to 20 feet and then had a three footer for eagle at 12.
“So it was very unspectacular but adds up to a spectacular score.”
Ferrie revealed he undertook a question and answer session with Footjoy/Titleist during the week and one of the questions he was asked was ‘what was his lowest ever score?’
“I told them that I had shot 61s before in college in Texas but then my lowest tournament score before today was 64 in the KLM Open last year and a 64 in the 2007 Wales Open,” he said.
“I had a couple of 63s on the Challenge Tour but this 60 is now my lowest by far on the main tour.”
Ferrie raced to the top of the board on 11-under par and three clear just before the leading trio were taking to the course.
