Rory McIlroy ‘putted in’ under the bright lights of the world’s largest mall to open a new Nike store early this evening here in Dubai.
The double Major winner was asked to putt on a six-foot long section of artificial putting surface placed in between the eight-foot wide entrance to shop at the Dubai Mall.
Once that was completed McIlroy, who has spent the past week practicing at the Els Club, signed an array of Nike golfing products including caps, shirts, shoes and some half-a-dozen crimson coloured Nike driver heads.
There was an informal question and answer session, a few obligatory autographs for fans waiting outside and then off to share dinner with his fiancée, Caroline Wozniacki and her parents.
McIlroy will tee up today (TUES) among 21 former Dubai Desert Classic winners, including 1989 winner and fellow Irishman Eamon Darcy, in an 18-hole $US 600,000 ‘Former Champions Challenge’.
Among the past winners will also be World No. 1 Tiger Woods winner in Dubai in 2006 and 2008.
