This week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship lead stars have shared center stage in a prelude to this week’s event in the UAE capital.

McIlroy and Mickelson joined a group of local musicians twirling golf clubs on a stage set-up in front of the stunning Falcon clubhouse at the National course here in Abu Dhabi.

Holding aloft their clubs, the pair swayed to the sounds of Emirati drums and chants as they learnt the finer art of Al Razfa – a dance traditionally performed by male warriors who brandish and twirl sticks as they celebrate heroes.

McIlroy’s appearance on stage is in stark contrast to a year ago when, in a spectacular laser and light show, he was introduced as Nike Golf’s newest staff player.  On that occasion McIlroy looking very uncomfortable despite signing a reputed $225m deal with the sports giant.
