Rory McIlroy’s Australian Open Success – What The Australian Papers Said.

The Australian newspapers were generally kind to crestfallen Adam Scott and generous to new Australian Open winner Rory McIlroy.

Scott let slip winning a second Australian Open title and the chance of becoming only the second player to win the Australian ‘Triple Crown’ when he bogeyed the last at Royal Sydney.

The Sydney Morning Herald’s back page headline read – Crown of THORNS.

The Daily Telegraph’s coverage, like all Australian papers, centred on Scott’s disappointment more so than leading on McIlroy’s first victory in over 12 months.

The paper’s main headline was Ectasy to agony in a hearvtbeat – McIlroy can’t believe his Irish luck.

There was a nice side bar piece on McIlroy titled – Shock win ends dark season on bright note.

Australia’s only national newspaper, The Australian ran with a front page headline:  Winsome, Losesome – Now back to the Ashes.
