John Senden First To Qualify For 2014 Open In New R & A Changes.

Australia’s John Senden created history to be the first player to qualify for next year’s 2014 Open Championship under the new Qualifying Series introduced by the R & A.

The changes have been detailed in an earlier story by www.golfbytourmiss.com

However Senden secured one of three 2014 (British) Open Championship qualifying spots on offer this week in the first of a revised qualifying system into golf’s oldest Major.

It will Senden’s eighth appearance in the (British) Open Championship and his second at Royal Liverpool after finishing T35th behind Tiger Woods in 2006.

John Senden“It’s a good positive note to end my season with a strong last round to also qualify for next ryear’s Open,” said Senden.

“I managed to qualify for the 2006 Open and I’m delighted that was play was good enough this week to be able to tee up there again.

“I’ve been struggling with a rib injury and also a wrist injury most of the year and found myself compensating in my swing.

“But I’ve had some good medical work done and it’s just showed in my game as I have played well the last five tournaments and hopefully I can take this confidence into 2014.”

Joining Senden in next year’s 143rd Open Championship will be fellow Australians Bryden Macpherson and Rhein Gibson who shared fourth place on nine under par.

Macpherson is no stranger to The Open having won last year’s British Amateur while the Oklahoma-based Gibson, who shot a world record 55 last year, will be making his first appearance in a Major.
