Ireland’s Philip Walton is on the verge of a maiden European Tour Seniors success after day two of the SSE Scottish Seniors Open at St. Andrews Bay.
Walton posted a three under par 69 to move into a fourway share of second place on four under par on a rain-lashed Torrance course.
Australia’s Peter Fowler capped his round with three birdies in succession mid-round in a score of 66 and only just managed to avoid the storm to lead by a shot on five under par.
Walton is tied second on four under par with fellow Irishman Denis O’Sullivan (72), Spain’s Santiago Luna (71) and England’s Peter Mitchell (70). Mitchell is a former winner while Luna is contesting his maiden season on the Seniors Tour.
Walton joined the Seniors brigade last year after turning 50 in March.
His best result to date was 13th in his first event of 2013 – the ISPA Handa Seniors PGA Championship.
