Adam Scott Inches Closer To Another Aussie Majors First.

Adam Scott inched closer on day two of the PGA Championship to another Australian golfing first.

Just four months after becoming the first Australian ever to be fitted with an Augusta National members green jacket and the Queensland-born golfer is two rounds away from becoming the only Australian to win two Majors in a single season.

Scott had shared the first round lead with American Jim Furyk but then seized the second round clubhouse lead on seven under par thanks to a round of 68 and played for the most part in steady rain on the Oak Hill course.

“I’m pleased with the round as it was difficult out there this morning,” he said.

“The course was playing really long with the heavy atmosphere and the rain. so I got off to a good start, which was important after yesterday’s 65, and I just kept myself moving in the right direction.

“But when the rain eased up, it became really scorable out there, and I didn’t quite take full advantage of that, as I missed a few putts.

“So hopefully I’ve saved those putts for the weekend.”

There has been just three Australian-born multiple Major Champions and they include Peter Thomson, Greg Norman and David Graham.Of course, Thomson and Norman captured seven Open Championship titles between them with Graham winnnig the 1979 PGA Championship and two years later added the 1981 US Open.

The PGA Championship marks the fourth time in six Majors Scott has been in contention for victory and while golfing fans ‘Down Under’ now face some early morning TV viewing, Scott’s quitely confident he can come out on top.

“I’ve got room for improvement, absolutely,” he declared.

“We are always lookg for the perfect, to be perfect, and that may be never be achievable.  But you die trying to guess.

“But then, I continue to see improvement in my short game and in my putting, and even in my ball-striking and the control of my ball flight.

“As long as I keep in that kind of mind-set and attitude, then I think I’ve got better golf in me still.”
