Wentworth Golf Club – Not The Course In Leafy Surrey.

With a few spare hours on my hands during last Saturday’s third round of the Tampa Bay Championship I took a short drive to inspect Wentworth Golf Club.

Having been to the Wentworth Club in England so many times, I was curious how this Florida course stacked up against it’s prestigious namesake across ‘The Pond’.

The course is located north of the Tampa Bay tournament venue at Tarpon Springs in Pinellas County.

Wentworth was designed by renowned designer, Steve Symers and opened for play in 1990.

Even after a quick inspection the course is not near as intimidating at the famed ‘Burma Road’ – the West Course that will play host again in May to the flagship BMW PGA Championship.

This Florida version is also relatively flat and also unlike its UK namesake not near as expensive with a weekday round before noon just $49 and then between noon and 4pm it’s $44 and down to $29 after 4pm.

The clubhouse is very much Wentworth, England and looks very imposing when you pull into the car park.  But then right next door is Mulligans – an Irish theme clubhouse.

Anyway here’s a few photographs of the Wentworth Golf Club – Florida version.
