After felling teenager Jason Blue with a wild drive during yesterday’s first round of The Open, it’s come to light Rory McIlroy and his management team have upgraded Blue and his friend into a luxury hotel room for the remainder of the week.

The Bristol-born Blue was camping out in a tent at a local cricket club.

However Conor Ridge, who manages McIlroy, sought out details of the teenager and had them pack up their belongings and move to the comfort of a St. Annes hotel.

And after the town was again drenched last night, the move could not have come at a better time.

“After what happened, Rory didn’t want Jason in a tent, he wanted him somewhere comforable where someone could keep an eye on him,” said Ridge.

“Rory’s put him up in a hotel and gave him a bit of pocket money for dinner with his pal.”

The area where McIloy’s ball eventually came to rest after bouncing off Blue’s head has now drawn debate given players were not aware there is out-of-bounds within the confines of the course.

Paul Casey found out the hard way also when he played an errant drive into the area where Seve Ballesteros played his miracle ‘car park shot’ on route to winning the 1979 Open.

Except the area now is out-of-bounds.

“I wasn’t aware that area is not out-of-bounds as I would have enjoyed the challenge and carved one around there and onto the green, but your not allowed now because there’s a tented village there now,” said Casey.

“You can bet Seve would have enjoyed that challenge of playing around a tented village.”
