Flags at being flown at half-mast and players are wearing black ribbons in honour of Seve Ballesteros who passed away earlier this morning.

The Spanish golfing legend died at 2.10am (Spanish time) from respiratory failure brought on by a brain tumour.

Ballesteros was just 54 years of age but in his remarkable lifetime he captured five Major Championships, 45 regular European Tour titles and six European No. 1 crowns.

There will be a minutes silence at 2.45pm local time in hon0ur of Ballesteros while all those who have ended their rounds have been asked to gather on the driving range of the El Prat course.

Bizarrely, Ballesteros’ last win in Europe was the 1995 Spanish Open title at the Club de Campo course in Madrid while it is 30 years this year since he won the first of three Spanish Open tournaments.
