Richard Mercer is one the most respected golf instructors in Australia.  He’s been been a member of the Australian Professional Golfer Association since 1977.

For the past seven years, he has served as the Head Golf Professional at Greg Norman designed The Vintage Golf Club in the Hunter Valley and just a short drive north of Sydney. 

Richard Mercer’s prior experience includes:

  • Designer and Head Golf Professional Portofino Golf Club (now Hunter Valley Golf and Country Club), Hunter Valley;
  • Designer Harrington Waters Golf Course;
  • Head Golf Professional – Kogarah Golf Club, Sydney;
  • Head Golf Professional Bega Golf Club, New South Wales;
  • Australian and European PGA Tour Professional;
  • Qualified and Played in two British Open Championships;
  • Participant in the annual Lexus Legends of Golf Tournament

The main focus of Richard Mercer’s professional teaching career has been to increase the enjoyment of golfers through his instruction programs focusing on keeping golf simple. Richard Mercer annually gives 1000+ individual lessons along with many different group offerings.  Individual lessons and clinics are available and will be tailored to meet your needs.

  •  Three times nominated New South Wales Instructor of the Year (most recently 2010).
  • Coach/Instructor of many past and present Tour Professionals and US University athletes.

Richard Mercer is a third generation member of the Mercer golf dynasty, arguably one of Australia’s greatest golfing families.  Richard completed his apprenticeship under his father, renowned PGA professional and instructor David Mercer who retired from the Killara Golf Club after 43 years. 

Another great influence on Richard Mercer’s teaching career has been his uncle, Alex Mercer, coach of Steve Elkington and Peter O’Malley.  He has also been greatly influenced by close family friend and British Open Champion, Kel Nagle, whom Richard represented at the 2007 World Golf Hall of Fame Induction in St. Augustine, Florida.

Richard’s 30+ years of experience, including four years on the Australian and European PGA Tours and 25 years of instruction and course design, make him one of Australia’s most sought after instructors.
