Ernie Els Apologies For Wentworth Outburst & Donates Sizeable Sum To Tour Fund

European Tour CEO, George O’Grady has accepted an apology from Ernie Els for his ‘intemperate’ language following his outburst following yesterday’s third round.

Els let loose a tirade at the European Tour and also Wentworth greens staff complaining of the lack of watering to the Wentworth course.

The South African’s remarks generated enormous coverage around the world and stealing much of the limelight away from Luke Donald’s impressive third day 69 that sent the World No. 2 into a two stroke lead with a round to play in the Tour’s flagship event.

However Els contacted O’Grady before tee off to apologise.

The Tour later issued a statement saying:  “Ernie Els asked to see me this morning and apologised for his intemperate language following the conclusion of his round yesterday.  He stated that he had already apologised to all the individuals concerned and offered a substantial donation to The European Tour Benevolent Fund, which I accepted.

“The European Tour now consider this matter closed.”

Els apology and his donation to the Fund also will effectively excuse him from any fine levelled by the Tour for bringing the Tour into disrepute.
