Rory McIlroy has long been a hit on the golf course. He’s been a smash hit on the tennis court and now he’s about to star next month in baseball.
The San Francisco Giants will honour the McIlroy with an Irish Heritage Night set to take place on June 12 at AT&T Park, will feature famous Irishman and decent golfer Rory McIlroy throwing out the first pitch in the game against the New York Dodgers.
And fans who purchase the special events ticket will get a limited-edition McIlroy bobblehead, with the golfer sported out in Giants gear.
“I think the Bobblehead might look a little better looking than me, which is nice,” said Mcilroy smiling and on the eve of this week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
“But I’m looking forward to it. I’ve got a few friends coming over the San Francisco, so it will be nice night on the Tuesday night before the US Open to sort of take my mind away from the golf a little bit and have a bit of fun, and throw the first pitch at a baseball game, and something I’ve never done before.
“All I need to do is start practicing. I don’t really want to make a fool of myself.”
McIlroy, the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, missed the cut at the Players Championship recently, but he’s finished in the top 10 in four of the six events he’s played in, including winning the Honda Classic and finishing second at the Wells Fargo Championship.
You can purchase tickets by heading to the Giants official site, and along with your bobblehead, you’ll get a slew of different benefits.
“Each special event ticket package includes a seat in one of the Irish Heritage sections for the game, with admission to the pre-game Irish party in Seals Plaza from 5pm-7pm, featuring cultural food and drink specials,” the Giants website reads.
“Special Event ticket holders will also receive their very own collector’s edition bobblehead of Northern Irish golfer, Rory McIlroy!”
