Super talented English golfer Marco Penge again has shown he needs to be taken super seriously in capturing the OpenDeEspana.
The 27-old Penge’s victory qualified him for a maiden Masters appearance next April after a first extra hole birdie saw him brilliantly capture a third DP World Tour title this season over fellow England golfer Daniel Brown at the host Club de Campo Madrid course in the Spanish capital.
Both players ended regulation play tied at the top 1t 15-under and with Penge struggling with just one birdie but two early round bogeys while Brown, who had birdied the third, eagled the fourth but then doubled the fifth, kept his nerve to birdie the last in a last in a 67.
There was high drama for Brown as he required regular treatment to his right shoulder and neck.
Joel Girrbach, the third member of the final group, finished one shot behind in third.
Penge’s win comes after capturing April’s Hainan Classic and the Danish Golf Championship in August and now he win in the Spanish capital earned an automatic tee time in bot the 2026 Masters and The Open at Royal Birkdale.
It will be Penge’s first appearance at Augusta National and fourth Open.

“But I felt like I managed myself really well and I actually think tee to green, I feel like I played really solid. It doesn’t matter the putts, I think I used them all yesterday, but obviously holing that one there was worth the wait.”
On his imminent Masters invitation, Penge said: “It’s crazy. It’s a golf course that I’ve always wanted to play, because I feel like my game sets up really good for it.
LIV Golf’s Tom McKibbin finished fourth on 12 under after he birdied the last for a round of 69, with Joakim Lagergren, Jayden Schaper, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen and Ugo Coussaud tied for fifth on 11 under.
Jon Rahm was ten under after an excellent Sunday 65, matched by Angel Ayora and David Puig for the status of top Spanish finisher after all three birdied the last.
Also on that score was Alex Fitzpatrick, who made 13 straight pars before eagling the 14th from a bunker and birdieing the 16th as a 68 boosted his chances of keeping his card for next year.
