Kaymer Looks Forward To Dicing With Golf’s ‘Younger Stars’.

World No. One Martin Kaymer declared he’s looking forward to the challenge of tackling golf’s new generation of stars.

Kaymer particularly singled out Italy’s Matteo Manassero brilliant winner of last week’s Malaysian Open and just two days shy of his 18th birthday.

But while Kaymer is stikll only 26-years old himself, Manassero is among a new breed of post Tiger Woods competitors.

They also include the likes of Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, Ryo Ishikawa and Australia’s Jason Day who was joint runner-up at Augusta.

“What Matteo does and how he won in Malaysia last week was very impressive,” said Kaymer.

“He is very cool and the way he finished off his round, he didn’t really struggle with anything.

“He had an eagle on 10 and didn’t really freak out and he was very calm, and that is very unusual for someone who was still only 17.

“So you can see a lot of potential in Matteo.

“It’s what I experienced for the last few years and that as you become good, it is more important to have people around you.

“It’s easy to become satisfied and you probably feel you don’t need to practice anymore, so I hope he has good people around him.

“But I am not really scared about playing against him.  That is competition.  It is the challenge I am looking for.

“I would be boring if I was to win every tournament so it’s nice to have a new generation coming up because they see Major winners as also being young guys.

“It means that I am going to playing against these young guys like Rory McIlroy and Matteo for the next 10 to 15 years.”

Kaymer was speaking at Wentworth on Tuesday in a promotion ahead of next month’s flagship BMW PGA Championship.

The reigning U.S. PGA winner will be joined by Graeme McDowell, winner of the U.S. Open along with Louis Oothuizen, winner of the Open Championship and Charl Schwartzel, who captured the Masters earlier this month.

It will be the first time in the history of the BMW PGA that four current Major winner’s will be competing on the famed Surrey course.
