DP World Tour Members All Aglow After Bethpage Winning Bliss

EXCLUSIVE ….. St. Andrews, Scotland

The DP World Tour gets back to business this week after the europhia of Europe’s stunning Ryder Cup Stateside success.

Four of the winning European team and each British – Thommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, Robert MacIntryre and defending Dunhill champ Tyrrell Hatton – will tee-up at the three host coureses.

And while the other eight, including the likes of Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry will be absent, there will be no shortage of back-slapping and hand-shaking from their fellow DP World Tour members where they arrive in Scotland.

England’s John Parry is top of this year’s Dunhill Links entry list and the 38-year dual Tour winner summed-up the feelings among all we spoke to within this first 24-hours post the stunning events of late Sunday afternoon in the greater Big Apple city.

“It was just unbelievable though I have to be honest, as I thought with Europe leading by so many points heading into the Singles it would be a boring day,” said Parry.

“Obviously, not being there you really don’t get a good idea what the crowds are also what it would be like there on the ground with Europe looking win by just creeping over the line.

“In the end, and with what happened with Hovland not playing the last day, it worked out so well for Europe.

“If there was  a highlight for me it was early on with Rose and Fleetwood beating DeChambeau and Scheffler comprehensively 3 & 2 in the Saturday afternoon fourball. Then there the enormous delight for all of Europe when Shane (Lowry) holing the Cup winning there at the last.

“I don’t know how we are going to control Shane these next two years ahead of Ireland after what he achieved yesterday.

“And then there’s (Luke) Donald as it was all  just so amazing”.

Matthew Southgate was anothing working on his game when GolfByTourMiss approached him on the Dunhill Links practice range.

“I was thrilled as the European Team did so well in the end as it must have been difficult taking a big lead as the team enjoyed and then to hold that lead right to the end”,  said Southgate.

“If could have been easy to not necessarily switch off but then it must also have been a surprise for the European lads down the end of the board how the scores were unfolding.

“It did get a little tighter than it should have done with the Americans gaining momentum, and you coud see that.  You get that when playing normal Tour events when someone will go and hole a few quick birdies in succession and especially when you yourself can’t make a birdie.

“That’s when you then feed off the energy of the crowd.

“So, as the Americans felt they could turn it around events starting swinging in their favour”.

If there was a moment for Southgate it was watching good friend Justin Rose perorming so well, indeed winning both his Friday and Saturday matches but missing out on a Singles success.

“I really enjoyed watching Rosie do well, as I have always got on with Justin”, said Southgate.

“I’ve also had a huge amount of respect for what he has achieved in his career and he’s still going strong at age 45.  Though saying that, I was really proud of all the boys and how that dealt with the crowd and handled some of the antics that were going there.

“I also enjoyed keeping a close eye on Rasmus, as well as he’s going to be a main stayer in Ryder Cup’s in the years to come.

“And how can you not talk about Luke Donald, as he’s done so well.  It’s funny recally as I’ve spoken to Luke in the past.  We get on nicely and he’s always been a gentleman while he’s also quite and reserved every time I’ve seen him play but then it comes to the Ryder Cup he seems to switch on a bit of a differently personalty for the captain’s job and the guys just love playing for him.

“It’s part the reason I feel that also made him become a World No. 1. and has also carried him on to become such a supberb European Ryder Cup captain as he never gets too excited when everything is progressing well and he’s never one to panic when it may be the opposite if things may be going wrong.

“So, he’s a great man!”

Good enough to captain Europe in 2027 at Adare Manor Southgate was asked?

“We are not sure how Luke will feel about handling the reins in Ireland but then I know how much work he’s put into captaining the last two Ryder Cups as they’ve each very time consuming and his own golf game has suffered”, said Southgate.

“So, a third captaincy is not ideal for him as he’s still passtionate about competing himself but then I certainly feel like the powers to be should surely still considerate it while I am not sure who would you bring in to replace Luke”.

Eight-time pro winning French-born Benjamin Hebert has always been a great supporter of GolfByTourMiss and we sought his views on Europe’s Big Apple record-setting victory bite.

“I was so happy for Europe after the first two days but then yesterday we all know about sport as it can never finish until the very end”, said the 38-year-old Frenchman.

“Obviously, it started well will a lot of blue points on the board early but then the last day and the Americans won the first two points, we saw a lot of red coloured numbers appearning on the board.

“So, I was starting to get nervous and began to saying to myself ‘Please, make something happen as we are running out of matches’.

“It the end Europe capped a wonderful week and that winning putt of Shane (Lowry) at the last hole and I was so happy for him.  I have known Shane for some 20-years.  We played a lot of amateur golf against each other and also played often in the same team.

“Shane is not, how should I say, a bright shinning light like Rory (McIlroy) and the other top guys on the European Team but he’s a great man, a great golfer and, as I mentioned, I was so pleased for him and Europe golf”,

Saying that Benjamin was asked in a smiing manner how then are we going to control Shane’s excitement over these two in the countdown to the 2027 Ryder Cup in Ireland.

Herbet laughed: “That’s a good question and it could be difficult.

“The great thing about Shane and also his reaction in holing that winning putt, is that it rubbed off all European fans whether present at the course or all over Europe by those watching on TV,

“He was just very happy and also clearly very emotional”.

Well said Benjamin and merci.

Thank you so much, as well, John and Matthew
