Armitage Delivers Nine Birdie Open De France Leading Haul.

England’s Marcus Armitage bounned back in brilliant manner to last week’s BMW PGA Championship bitter ‘missed cut’ disappointment grabbing nine birdies, including four in succession to commence his round of a seven-under 64.

Armitage’s stunning French may come a week after his Wentworth disappointment but the 38-year-old had arrived in leafy Surrey following a brilliant closing 64 to finish T12th at the Irish Open.

Amitage’s FexEx Open de France opener handed the the 2012 Porsche European Open winner a superb springboard into the next three rounds of the event again being hosted by the famed Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche course on the outskirts of Versailles.

“I was hitting it pretty close and just the putts started to drop,” Armitage said. “I think I one-putted every green for that space of holes. Yes, that will work.”

“Once you see a few go in, you get on a run and then you just feel like you’re just moving the putter and picking it out of the hole,” Armitage added.

“Yeah, you definitely feel it with the putter. You know, sometimes you get it with your irons and drivers become automatic, but mainly the putter, you get a lot of momentum with it.”

Armitage is 45th in The Race to Dubai rankings going into this week and said: “I’d love to get a Top 20, Top 15 on the Order of Merit and press forward from there. That’s a big goal for me, and this is an important week for The Race to Dubai.

“Just three more of them and we’ll see where we are.”

The popular English golfer’s effort is just a shot more that Armitage’s stunning 62 on day one earlier this year in January and on route to his eventual second place in the Ras Al Khamiah Championship.

The duo of Aussie Min Woo Lee and Frenchman Julien Guerrier share second with four-under 66s.

Guerrier’s compartiot Max Keiffer is among a group signing for a tidy four-under 67 and sharing fourth place.
