An emotional Daniel Brown has dedicated a second DPWT victory to the memory of a dear friend he lost last weekend.
Brown tapped-in for birdie at the last in a closing round score of 66 for a two-shot winning tally at 22-under over fellow Englishman Jordan Smith to secure his second DP World Tour title.
Brown won his maiden DP World Tour title at the 2023 ISPS Handa World Invitational and then shot to fame after leading after the first round of The Open in 2024 on route to finishing T10th at Royal Troon.
Though it was the 30-year-old Brown speaking here in Munich of what the win, and in his 69th Tour event, means to him after the terrible sadness of less than a week ago.
Qn: Were you playing for him today, motivated by his memory to win or were you trying to block it out?
“Yeah, the last two days I just kept thinking about him to try and take my mind off it and obviously trying not to get too emotional in the process.
“I’m not too sure what happened today, all day really, it’s sort of like an out of body experience and obviously nerves. And then thinking about the importance of winning a golf tournament, it sort of played it down a little bit, what’s happened.
“I suppose he was there with me and it made it a little bit easier.

Brown is now the eighth English winner of the tournament.
He began the day with a one-shot lead over Smith but extended his advantage with four birdies in his first six holes.
Both players found birdies on the final hole, with New Zealand’s Kazuma Kobori rounding out the top three on 18 under.
