World No. 1 Scottie Schefffler ended a near five-month victory drought in tears at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in his home city of Dallas, Texas.
Scheffler led from start-to-finish posting scores of 61, 63, 66 and a closing 63 under a preferred lie rule to claim a first title since last December’s Hero World Challenge by eight shots thanks to his 31-under tally on the host rain-softened TPC Craig Ranch course in the Lone Star State.

The 28-year-old went into the closing round leading by eight shots and was never going to be headed adding a ninth hole eagle ‘3’ and eight birdies but also two bogeys.
South African Erik Van Rooyen was a distant second signing for a 63 to end his Texas campaign on 23-under.
Scheffler’s fellow Dallas golfer Jordan Spieth produced a timely pre-PGA Championship return to form signing for a last day 62 that included nine birdies to finish fourth on 19-under par.
However it as all Scheffler with his win being a 14th PGA Tour career title and in an event where he made his PGA Tour debut a decade ago.
“It feels like a lifetime of hard work and sacrifice for little moments like these and … they’re pretty special.”

However after his dominant win, the normally ultra laid-back Scheffler shared heartfelt words in a discussion with CBS reported Amanda Balionis.
“This tournament means a lot to me”, he said holding his young son, Bennett.
“It’s my first start as a pro, 11 years ago, when I had my sister caddying for me – she’s back there too. It feels like a lifetime of hard work and sacrifice for little moments like these, and they’re pretty special.”
Scheffler was asked in the media centre soon after his victory what the Dallas tournament meant to him and also being reminded by a photograph he was shown of meeting legendary Byrson Nelson back in 2003 w/..hen Scheffler was aged just six-years-old and three years prior to Nelson sadly passing away aged 94 in 2006.
“When I think about this tournament, I think about Mr. Nelson. I think about what he did for the game of golf. He was a man of faith, and he was a great person as well off the golf course. He was a person that I’ve read a lot about. I’ve had the opportunity to meet him a few times when I was a kid, and I know a lot about him. He was a tremendous player and a tremendous person. So we look up to him in a variety of ways.
“I’m proud to be here supporting his tournament and his legacy. We have some great legacy tournaments on the PGA Tour. I believe that Mr. Nelson also did a lot for the PGA Tour. For his tournament to have a lasting legacy here, not only in Dallas but on the PGA Tour as well, I think is really important.

“When I grew up wanting to play in this tournament, I never really dreamed of being the Number 1 player in the world, I never thought about that stuff, but I hope it does well for the tournament. I was proud to be able to support it this year.
“It’s a tough time of year overall. When you get into the heart of the season, there’s major championships and the signature events. It’s a busy time. You kind of have to pick and choose your schedule.
“I would love to play every week on Tour. We have so many great tournaments. You have to pick and choose. This was a tournament this year that I really wanted to be a part of. I’m going to take next week off and get some rest and get ready for the PGA Championship”.
