New TC Houston Open champion Min Woo Lee revealed a number of ‘Kick in the Butt’ X social media messages acted as a source of motivation in capturing his maiden PGA Tour victory.
Despite some anxious moments over the closing three holes the 26-year-old Aussie-born Lee was never headed over the weekend, posting a closing three-under 67 and winning a single shot thanks to a 20-under tally on the host Memorial Gardens course in Houston.
Lee won by denying both World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and fellow Texas and US Open winner Gary Woodland who were tied in second place on 19-under.
In the process of securing what is also a fifth pro career win, Lee was asked what was behind the scenes the Perth-born golfer needed to overcome this maiden PGA Tour triumph, and here we recall Lee having put himself into contention early in his last event, The Players, and where he eventually shared a distant share of 20th.

“I received a couple of not so great messages the last few tournaments after obviously not finishing off like The Players”, said the new World No. 22 ranked Aussie.
“The Players was a tough weekend but the messages, yes, were a bit of a kick in the butt.
“I knew I was going to get to this point … I mean I wasn’t even going to play this tournament but I’m grateful to my manager for putting this tournament on my schedule.
“Obviously, Houston is going to be in my heart for a long time.
“So, my first PGA Tour win. Let’s cook!”
Let’s cook indeed! Well done, Min Woo. There will be a lot of Australians golf fans late for work this Monday morning ‘Down Under’.
