Heeee’s Back! It’s Been Seven Events In Some Four Months & Scottie’s Back On Top

It was the 8th December, 2024 when World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler last tasted success in the elite Hero World Challenge.

The New Year dawned with Scheffler contesting his openinng event of 2025 in securing ninth behind World No. 2 Rory McIlroy at the AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Scheffler was kind of an after thought and looked rusty in sharing 25th place at the Phoenix Open while he did bounce back to where we know he has been accustomed and that’s into the limelight with a share of third at the Genesis Invitational.

The Texan took three weeks off coming back to share 11th at Arnies event before also hardly making any impression at the Tour’s flagship event at TPC Sawgrass, sharing 20th place and eigth shots behind McIlroy who captured his second Tour title of the 2025.

But now, and with his defence of The Masters less than two weeks away and Scheffler has brilliantly announced his presence posting a blistering bogey-free second round eight-under 62, under a ‘preferred lie’ rule, to lead by one at 11-under at the Texas Children’s Houston Open.

“Yeah, it felt pretty good. Hit a lot of fairways out there, gave myself a lot of look”, he said. “I holed a good amount of putts today, holed a few long ones, which is always nice.

“I felt like I was hitting so many good putts, especially at The Players, putts that were going around the edge. Today was a day where I felt like my ball-striking could have been a bit better and I was able to hole some putts. I hit a lot of greens but I felt like my irons were just barely off, and I felt like I could have been hitting them a little bit closer to the hole, but overall kept it on the green, kept giving myself looks.

“The way I was putting, I didn’t feel I had to force ’em there by many pins if I wasn’t totally comfortable with the shot, so good results”.

Canadian Taylor Pendrith signed for a second score of 65 to be in second place at 10-under as the afternoon half of the field took to the course.

Among those out post lunch was McIlroy who posted an opening score of 70 and in his first appearance in the event in 11-years.
