Double Masters winning Bubba Watson has welcomed news as a ‘start’ moves by those running the men’s majors in slowly opening the doors for more LIV Golf stars to compete at the highest level.
We’ve learnt in recent months both the United States Golf Association (USGA), the organization that puts on the US Open, and the Royal & Ancient (R & A), that run the Open Championship, have created pathways for LIV players to participate in their championships.
The R & A indicated on February 10th the leading player not already exempt in the top five of the 2025 LIV Golf Individual Standings following the final round of LIV Golf Dallas on June 29 will be awarded a place in the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, July 17-20.
And while Augusta National has not yet followed suit, the green jacketed brigade did offer special 2025 Masters invitations to Nicolai Hojgaard and LIV star Joaquin Niemann to tee-up early next month.

Watson was asked his reaction to this growing acceptance of thoses competing under the LIV banner ahead of Friday’s commencing LIV Golf Singapore.
“Yeah, I think that any chance we have to get into the majors, get all of us playing together again, it’s always a good thing”, said Watson
“My thoughts have always been we should just go off of our points list or our money list and have 15 guys from LIV be in all the majors, the top 15 from the year before. That’s what I’ve always said. I’ve said it since day one.
“But this is a start. This is a start in the right direction, that people recognize that LIV is here to stay and that LIV is not going anywhere, and it’s only getting better.
“The majors are seeing that, and the majors realize for that one week that they have an event, they need us to join in there and play so we can get some media attention but also show how good LIV is and what team sport is all about.”
