Garcia Buoyed Heading To A 100th Major, Knowing Luke Donald’s Watching

Sergio Garcia will take a second LIV victory to this week’s LIV Golf Singapore but it’s a tournament next month in Augusta, Georgia along with a bigger golf event later this year in New York State that the Spaniard is eyeing.

Garcia brilliantly stormed home on the back of a 63 to claim a second LIV Golf title in the space of just seven events at the LIV Golf Hong Kong while also leading his Fireballs team to a just as stunning one-shot success.

The 45-year-old super Spainard also made it pro victory number 38 thanks to an overall three-round display of an eagle, 18 birdies and just two bogeys on the host Hong Kong Golf Club course.

And while there is not yet World Ranking points of offer to LIV Golf , Garcia’s showing was just the effort that he needs to continue to exhibit that could get himself on the European Ryder Cup charter flight heading in September to Bethpage Park on New York’s Long Island.

“I think he’s watching”,  said Garcia when asked if he thinks Donald may have been watching his efforts this week in Hong Kong.

“We’ve been in touch, so I know that he’s keeping an eye.

“The only thing I can do is keep playing good golf, and I just want to help the European team like I’ve tried to do every single time I’ve been a member of that team, and hopefully he will think I’m good enough for it”.

And while Garcia will be Singapore bound this week, he will be heading to Augusta National exactly a month from today not only returning to the famed Georgia course as a past Masters champion but celebraining a 100th major championship appearance.

Garcia contested a first major at the 1996 Open Championship and then in his then  74th major, being fitted with an Augusta members green jacket.

He played a 99th major in secuing a share of 12th at last year’s US Open, and now ‘super proud’ to celebrate a 100th at a venue where he savoured the biggest moment of his ‘individual’ playing career.

“Yeah, super excited about it”, said the smiling Spaniard.

“It’s a milestone that not a lot of people get to achieve, so I’m super proud, super happy, and I can’t wait to go there and just enjoy it. Whatever happens happens, but I’m just going to try to enjoy the week as much as possible, and then hopefully my game will show up”.

Well done, Sergio.
