Garcia Lights-Up Hong Kong With Second LIV Golf Success & A 38th Career Victory.

Sergio Garcia lit-up the final round grabbing an eagle and five birdies to capture the second LIVGolf Hong Kong on the host Hong Kong course in suburban Fanling.

Garcia, who turned 45 earlier this year, also clinched a 38th pro career success thanks to an impressive closing 63 for an 18-under tally.

The Masters champion just got better with every Hong Kong round posting a Friday opening 65, a 64 on day two and now one fewer on the day when it all counts and totalling one eagle, 18 birdies and two bogeys.

The win comes on the back of last July’s maiden LIV Golf triumph at LIVGolf Andalucia in his beloved Spain. In fact, it’s his second taste of success in seven starts.

South African Dean Burmester stormed his way into second place signing for a 62 and a 15-under tally.

In a welcome return to the top of a leaderboard Phil Mickelson grabbed a closing 64 to finish third at 14-under and one clear of newly-engaged Aussie Lucas Herbert also finishing with a 64 on 13-under.

Garcia’s victory and Mickelson’s return to the top of the leaderboard is timely for both with The Masters now a matter of weeks away.

“Yeah, it was great”, was Garcia’s response when asked how good it is to win in Asia where LIV Golf is looking to grown the game.

“Obviously I knew that I had to play well. My goal starting the day was to shoot 5-under, which was going to help me and the team. Didn’t hit the best tee shot on 18, but I knew that we were tied or one ahead, so I wasn’t going to lay up, and I hit a beautiful 4-iron here and then obviously hit a great putt.

“Super proud of the team. I think Luis made a birdie on the last to give us the team. Super proud of him after yesterday and how much he fought and everything, so it’s been great”,

Q. When you were young, Seve and José María took you under their wing. How much are you enjoying doing the same with your youngsters on your team which have led to a second consecutive team win?

SERGIO GARCIA: I love it. I obviously love it. I do have two young ones of my own that we also take care of, my wife and I. But no, it’s fun. I really love this format. I really love the team aspect of it and trying to put my arm around them and give them advice if they need it or if they want it and try to help them be the best version of themselves on another golf course.

“Yeah, it’s been fun”.

And as Garcia hinted in his response above it was also a double success for Garcia as he captained his ‘Fireballs GC’ to victory in the team event to a one-shot triumph with team members Abraham Ancer (65), David Puig (67) and Luis Masaveu (70) combining to finish at 15 under in the final round for a 54-hole 37-under total and deny the Stinger GC by a single stroke.

Next up for LIV Golf is LIVGolf Singapore and starting Friday on the famed Sentosa course.
