Paul Casey first teed-up on the Hong Kong Golf Club course over 15-years ago, so he’s no stranger to this week’s LIV Golf Hong Kong host venue in suburban Fanling.
Indeed, the affable Englishman contested last year’s LIV hosted Hong Kong event but never before on the four occasions in his career he’s teed-up in Hong Kong has the now 47-year-old produced a round of 63 as he did on day one of the 2025 LIV Golf Hong Kong.
Casey’s efforts on the tight, tree-lined layout handed him a two-shot leading cushion heading into the weekend rounds.
Commencing from the eighth hole, Casey birdied the 12th, eagled the par-5 13th and then produced birdies on 17, the first, third and seventh holes.
“A good round of golf, bogey-free”, he said.
“Good round of golf, one that I was really happy with. The highlights would be the eagle on 13, long putt on 13, and then really the par save on 18 were — the par save on 18 was huge. It’s such a difficult hole. I made bogey down there in the playoff last year against Abe, and it’s got our full respect every time we play it, so to find the water, take a drop and chip in for par was huge and kept the round going”.
Casey is competing in Hong Kong for a first occasion since November 2012 when he finished in a share of 19th in the DP World Tour’s Hong Kong Open.

And with Casey already getting his nose in front by two shots, he maybe hard to beat, given that many of his 21 worldwide wins have been in the Asian region including a pair of TCL Classic wins and also two Volvo China Open triumphs.
“I pride myself, I think I’ve won in 13 different countries ,” he said.
“I mean, I’ve always been a global traveler and enjoyed the challenge of trying to tick another country off on the win list.
“It’s something that’s always kind of excited me, to win around golf courses with history that are iconic, so you can be assured that I’m trying very hard this week because I’d love to add this one to the list”.
