Scotland’s Scott Jamieson is just a round shy of ending a 12-year winless drought in Durban, remarkably just two miles from where he captured a first and only victory in South Africa’s third largest city.
Jamieson, 41, grabbed seven birdies including three in succession in a 68 for a 10-under tally in very testing windy conditions on day three of the rain-affected 114th South African Open on the Durban Country Club and virtually just up the road where in December 2012 he won the Nelson Mandela Championship at the Royal Durban Club.
England’s Laurie Canter leads the way at 14-under with South African Dylan Naidoo with two third round holes still to play due to the initial three-hour delay on Thursday.

Jamieson’s had three holes of his second round remaining when poor light halted play on Friday, and with nearly half the field still to complete their second rounds in the event delayed by three hours on Thursday morning due to heavy rain on Wednesday.
His ‘moving day’ third day’s play began at the 10th hole by a hat-trick of birdies from the 13th, a hole that he’s now birdied three days running.
Jamieson then managed four further birdies and dropping three shots to continue he good work after a round two 66.
Jamieson says: “It was a good round of golf with a good few birdies and in pretty tough conditions. Just hoping Dylan remains on 14 under as that would help so much.
“It was a slow start to my week but the last two rounds have been pretty solid. Plenty of birdies and what you need to do around here. I’ve just got to watch the bogeys but other than that, I’m delighted with how I am playing”.
As well, Jamieson is just two strokes shy of earning a Royal Portrush Open Championship tee-time if he’s among the leading three players not already exempt.
Canter, who enjoys the clubhouse lead, is only one of two players among the 71 to make the halfway cut who is currently exempt into this 153rd Open.
