Triple major-winning Jordan Spieth will make a surprise debut at this week’s $9.2mCognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches.

Of course, the Texas-based Spieth is no stranger to Florida though this will be a first in teeing-up on the PGA National course featuring the ‘Bear Trap’ at Palm Beach Gardens.

Spieth has been also drawn to contest the opening two rounds in the company of fellow Americans Russell Hendley and long-time good friend Rickie Fowler.

The current World No. 70 ranked Spieth is getting back into the deep-end of competition since undergoing a wrist operation last August and returned last month for the AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (T69th) the following week’s Phoenix Open (T6th) while missing the cut at the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines.

And it comes of no surprise that Spieth’s had many offers from his close golfing companions to stay with them for the duration of this week’s event in the Palm Beach region.

“Yeah, they both reached out — they offered to stay with them, and I decided to just stay closer,” said Spieth when asked if Fowler or Justin Thomas had reached out to him with the offer of a room.

While he may have declined a room it will stop Spieth in spending quality time away from the course with them.

“Yeah, I do plan on going and seeing them and having a couple dinners and hanging out. They’re not far away”, said Spieth.

“I’ve just not spent much time in this area at all, which is very surprising because it’s such a professional men’s golf mecca between all the guys that live here, all the great golf courses, obviously this tournament. So you have everything here.

“I just have oddly — it’s like the one place I just haven’t spent much time. But I’m really looking forward to checking it out this week. And yeah, I’ll go see those guys at their homes.

“They also both have kids now, so it’ll be fun — we hang out on the road all the time, so it’ll be fun to see them in their home”.

Spieth and wife, Annie have two kids of their own and announced just recently a third is on the way.
