MacIntyre ‘Bombs’ Out Of Torrey Pines – First In Six Months.

A week after tossing ‘Bobby’s Bombs’ to delighted fans in Phoenix, and top Scot Bob MacIntyre has bombed out of the $20m Genesis invitational at Torrey Pines in California.

MacIntyre never recovered from a Thursday second hole double-bogey, posting scores of 76 and 75 to miss the cut by three shots at seven over.

It is the first halfway ‘cut’ MacIntyre has missed in some six month’s since sitting out the weekend rounds in last August’s Wyndham Championship, and 16 tournaments ago.

The Oban lefty was contesting the event for a first time and a second occasion at Torrey Pines after being T35th at the 2021 US Open on the same South Course.

MacIntyre arrived on the Californian West Coast following his T6th finish at last week’s Phoenix Open where he delightedly tossed his ‘Bobby’s Bombs’ gift packs of Oban Celtic Shinty club shirts wrapped with a $20 note to appreciative and well-watered fans.

No such joy at a rain-softened Torrey Pines layout with a preferred lie rule in effect after more than an inch of rain on Thursday.

MacIntyre was among 18 in the limited 80 player field to miss the cut in an event featuring 46 of the world’s official top-50.

The Scot’s rounds included four birdies, two each day, along with seven bogeys and two doubles.

MacIntyre has this coming week’s Mexican Open off ahead of returning for the February 27th commencing Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches at West Palm Beach in Florida.

The $9.2m event is the first of the four Florida Swing events.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler roared back into contention at Torrey Pines for a first win since last December, and also after his Christmas Day hand injury.

Scheffler added a second round 67 to be just one back of fellow American Davis Thompson.

He said: “I’m pretty satisfied with the way I scored today. I did not drive the ball as well as I would have hoped to, I felt like I was out of position a lot today, but did a good job of muscling some shots up there on the green and getting up and down when I needed to as well”.
